Marketing

I have been Writing for years. In April of 2018 I published my first book, a collection of poems. I told all my family and friends about it and they were pretty supportive and excited for me. This excitement did not necessarily translate into sales.  I did not have a large circle of influence and initially and that was reflected in the numbers.

I didn’t know about the marketing aspect. I guess I was thinking that I would write a book and somehow, magically the sales would just take off. I would look into the checking account and there would be a giant royalty deposit waiting for me. Nothing could be further from the truth. As I soon found out, the work had only just begun. Getting word out that there is a new author in town is the work that gets the sales, but how to do it was now the question.

I started writing my first novel around the time that I released the poetry book. I looked around on the internet for publishing options and I signed on with a self-publishing house. So far, the person that I have worked with has been helpful, giving pointers about what to expect during the publishing process. He also discussed with me marketing. This is when I realized how important it is.

For the release of my novel, the marketing is not ready to begin yet, but I do have another book in publication that needs attention now. That book, to me, is a good book that I believe offers valuable insights to anyone who reads it, so the trick now is to get it into as many hands as possible. I do realize that no one is going to work as hard for my personal success as I am so It is time to get to work.

I started by creating an author page on Facebook where people can follow the progress of the books. Next, I joined some writer’s groups, also on Facebook. One of the groups involves promoting each other’s books via twitter, so I started a twitter account as well as an Instagram account. I just started using twitter to share other author’s work and my own. Soon the seeds will grow and the sales will flow.

I finished putting together my Amazon Author page so people can find me on the website and I started a blog. So here I am writing on this blog and giving valuable insights about my journey through writing and marketing my first book.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day.
