One of the commitments that I have made for the first quarter of 2021 is to write twelve blog posts, one each week. I have a list of ideas from my upcoming novel. One of the other commitments is to have that book published and to promote it in order to generat interest in what I write.
There is a great deal of work that goes on in the background that no one ever sees in order to write, publish, and promote a book. It is like anything else; most people only see the final result with no idea of the work that goes into being successful with something. One of the struggles is knowing which direction to go. Each decision has an infinite amount of variables and it is easy to get mired in the indecision. This has been true with my writing career for many years.
What should I do? Should I publish under my own name? Should I write another book in the same series? Should I write a book of poetry? What should I name the website? Free website or paid? Should I have a facebook page? The list of questions is endless and sometimes it seems as if no progress has been made.
What if I make a mistake? When I give an apprentice direction, I always ask, “Do you know what will happen if you make a mistake? We’ll fix it.” There is no reason to not make a decision. There is enough work to do without stalling out of fear.
Like the saying goes, “Fortune favors the bold” it is time to be bold it is time to make decisions in my career. It is time to make mistakes sooner, so I have time to correct my path. It is time to do something, even if it’s wrong.
